TED Tuesday #5 – Guy Winch: Why we all need to practise emotional first aid

If you haven’t heard of TED the organisation, perhaps you have seen or heard a TED Talk? As the mission statement on the website reads:

“TED is a global community, welcoming people from every discipline and culture who seek a deeper understanding of the world. We believe passionately in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and, ultimately, the world. On TED.com, we’re building a clearinghouse of free knowledge from the world’s most inspired thinkers — and a community of curious souls to engage with ideas and each other, both online and at TED and TEDx events around the world, all year long.”

This week’s talk features Guy Winch, a psychologist who explores why we don’t treat emotional pain the same way we do as physical pain. His case for taking care of our emotions, our minds, with the same diligence as we do our bodies is fitting in this day and age of ever increasing stresses and demands that we place on ourselves.
