A Thai collection for Mandela Day

WHAT IS MANDELA DAY?

“What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.” – Nelson Mandela

Nelson Mandela International Day commemorates the lifetime of service Nelson Mandela gave to South Africa and the world. It was launched on his birthday, 18 July, in 2009 via a unanimous decision by the UN General Assembly.

“It is in your hands to make of the world a better place,” he said a year earlier, calling on the younger generation to take up this task.

Mandela Day calls on us all, every day, to make the world a better place. Each year on 18 July we look back on what has been done, and forward to what will be done.

Making every day a Mandela Day celebrates Madiba’s life and legacy in a sustainable way that will bring about enduring change.

On 18 July, Kong, Orient, So Yum and Wangthai will be utilized as collection points for canned foods that will be donated to Look Forward Creativity Centre. The idea of the Look Forward Creativity Centre was to start a family where children who are hurt by being abandoned, neglected, abused or orphaned received all the love any good family can give. The centre gives children a home and a second chance at life, no matter what experiences they had previously gone through. The collections will go towards the children’s outreach programme. The programme provides food meals and stationary to the children in a nurturing environment that combats negative, destructive behaviour by creating a safe space for the children to play, learn and grow.

The Look Forward Creativity Centre Mission:

Our Mission is to help influence the future development of children in our community and in our country. Our model seek first to understand why these children are abandoned or orphaned, for understanding them is the key finding value in them and value is the basis for respect, decisions and action. We seek to learn through our children, for learning is the basis for growth, and growing is the key to loving is what we desire to do better for our children and community.

How can you help:

All we are asking of you is to donate canned foods or any foods that do not ferment and drop these off at the receptions of Kong, Wangthai, So Yum or Orient. In doing so, the restaurants invite you to return for a complimentary dim sum dish with any main meal order.

Share your donations and dim sum experiences with us:
